MET-Rx Protein Bar Review

MET-Rx is a brand that specializes in the promotion of protein-based sports performance products. Their product line includes a variety of items, such as protein bars, powders, beverages, and supplements; a few of which I have had the pleasure of recently trying myself. Today, we are going to be reviewing MET-Rx’s protein bars, which fall under two distinct categories: Big 100 and Protein Plus.

Big 100 & Protein Plus Bars

Flavors & Taste

Met-Rx’s Big 100 protein bars come in 8 different flavors: Birthday Cake, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, Crispy Apple Pie, Fruity Cereal Crunch, Jelly Donut Crunch, Peanut Butter Pretzel, Super Cookie Crunch, and Vanilla Caramel Churro. The Protein Plus bars, on the other hand, come in 2 flavors: Chocolate Chocolate Chunk and Peanut Butter Cup. Each bar provides nearly the same nutritional value, while maintaining the distinct taste that each product name indicates. My four favorite bars of the selection so far have been Birthday Cake, Crispy Apple Pie, Fruity Cereal Crunch, and Peanut Butter Cup.

Something amazing that I’ve noticed about these products is that they don’t give me the same bland, chalky taste that I’ve experienced with a lot of other protein bars on the market. In fact, sometimes it’s hard to tell the difference between a traditional candy bar and MET-Rx’s protein bars, due to how similar some of the products are in texture to something like a Snickers or even a Twix. Depending on the flavor you buy, you might notice that some bars are slightly crunchy, sometimes fluffy, and sweetened just enough to not be overwhelming. Typically, what happens is that you’ll buy different flavors of the same product to see what appeals to you the most, only to find out that there isn’t much of a difference between them. However, MET-Rx avoids this issue by ensuring that all their products maintain the uniqueness indicated by their flavor descriptors.

Health/Nutritional Information & Ingredients

Each Big 100 protein bar provides around 400 calories and between 30-32 grams of protein, while the Protein Plus selection provides around 300 calories and 30 grams of protein exactly.  Additionally, each flavor in both product categories provides a combination of different essential nutrients, such as Vitamins A, B6, B12, C, D, E, Calcium, Zinc, Iron, and a variety of other energy boosting compounds. If you’re someone like me, who likes to engage in an early morning workout before beginning the day, or even just someone who wants to be energized for work and your other day-to-day activities, MET-Rx’s Big 100 and Protein Plus bars do exceedingly well in offering the stamina that a well-balanced snack would provide you during your routine.

The increased energy that comes from this brand’s usage of high-quality whey and milk-based proteins is not only almost immediately noticeable, but these compounds work together to provide a steady supply of power to your body. This means that regardless of the intensity of whatever physical task it is that you’re trying to complete, MET-Rx’s protein bars have enough nutrients to keep you going for hours after consumption.

Likeability

The MET-Rx brand has a significant following, a decently high level of consumer favorability, and trust, which is apparent in how positively the brand’s products are received in fitness social circles. Even in my own journey to better my overall health and fitness, I’ve found that these protein bars give me a significant edge when compared to anything else I’ve tried in the past. Some of the common questions I’ve been asked when recommending these products to friends and family are:

  • Are MET-Rx’s protein bars healthy?
  • Are MET-Rx’s protein bars good for weight loss?
  • Are MET-Rx’s protein bars good for bulking?
  • Are there any side effects?

MET-Rx’s protein bars are completely healthy. Due to the product’s assortment of macro and micronutrients, it substitutes entirely as a meal replacement bar. In fact, you may even be getting more of the essential vitamins and minerals from the protein bar that you could potentially be missing in your overall diet. Additionally, due to the caloric and carb difference between MET-Rx’s Big 100 and Protein Plus bars, they’re also great for weight loss or even bulking, depending on your fitness goals.

Fortunately, even though the Protein Plus selection is currently limited, if you’re a number cruncher, there may still be enough variation within the Big 100 selection to help you achieve your desired daily intake. From my personal experience, I’ve encountered no side effects from this product. However, that isn’t to say that my experience will be shared among other individuals. As with all products that you consume, always be sure to listen to your body and to stop if it’s telling you that something isn’t right.
