Once I found out how long to soft boil eggs perfectly and make them easy to peel, I was able to prep protein packed eggs for the entire week.

Whether you typically like your eggs scrambled, poached, boiled or fried, with an instant pot, air fryer or microwave, boiling them allows you to conveniently pull an egg out of the refrigerator any time of the day.

The real “trick” to soft boiling an egg perfectly is dependent on how long you boil your eggs, what you do with the eggs after they are boiled, and how quick you are to peel the eggs thereafter.

After you learn how to consistently make the perfect soft-boiled eggs, you can eat them plain, on salads, as deviled eggs, on toast with avocado, for a ramen dish, as an egg salad sandwich, or as a side dish with your breakfast.

Egg Nutritional Benefits

Eggs have many health benefits and are packed full of nutrients such as vitamin D, B2, B5, B6, B12 and minerals such as zinc, copper and iron. Each egg also has 3 grams of healthy monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats, protecting your heart by keeping cholesterol levels in a healthy range. Eggs are also great at reducing the risk of type 2 diabetes.                                                                                                                 `

Aside from the many health benefits of eggs, let’s look at how to properly prepare a boiled egg.

How Long Should I Boil an Egg?

For the perfect fail-safe soft boiled, you should boil them between 7-8 minutes. I like the 8-minute mark. If you like your egg a little harder inside, you can go for the 8-9-minute mark. If you boil them for less than 7 minutes, you risk not completely hardening the whites of the eggs, making the whites slightly watery and runny.

Just make sure your water is boiling before you put the eggs in. Don’t start with the eggs in cold water. Drop them in with a spoon to prevent cracking, or one of those little wire egg holders you use during Easter to hold eggs in the dye.

What Do I Do with the Eggs after They are Boiled?

After you boil your eggs, immediately run them under cold water. I usually keep them in the pot and just put them in the sink with the faucet running on top, while letting the water run over the top. Dousing them in cold water will stop the cooking process.

How Do I Make the Eggs Easy to Peel?

After you run cold water over your eggs and they are cool enough to handle, immediately peel the eggs. I like to softly drop them on the counter on all the areas of the eggs, making little cracks all over the egg before I start to peel.

Eat them warm or put them in the fridge to be eaten later. Try to eat them in the next 7 days to prevent them from spoiling.

Make it easy to slice your eggs with the Westmark Germany Multipurpose Stainless Steel Wire Egg Slicer. This stainless steel slicer is made in Germany and comes with a 5 year warranty.

What’s great is it’s dishwasher safe, making it easy to clean, and can cut many other foods like strawberries, mushrooms, and kiwis.

How Much Protein is in an Egg?

1 large egg has about 6 grams of protein, so if you eat 2-3 per day, you can start your day off with 12-18 grams of protein. Start adding things like yogurt, chicken breasts, dairy, and nuts, and you’ll be on your way to getting your protein intake for the day.
