What is a Squat Plug?

For those of you who are Bodybuilders or Heavy Lifters, you may have heard of people using a “squat plug”.

Urban dictionary defines this as ”What lifters stick in their rectum when squatting or deadlifting to prevent them from clenching too hard.”

I don’t believe this is what the intention of something like this would be used for.

Many heavy lifters exert an excessive amount of force through their quads, glutes, hamstrings, back, and calf muscles to propel weight up as fast as possible.

This in essence leaves you vulnerable to passing or expelling something out of your rear end because of the power it takes to push a barbell back up to a stationary position at the highest of levels.

What is a Squat Plug Used For?

A squat plug, in theory, would keep anything from coming out your rear end during a squat, deadlift, or any heavy Olympic lift. It’s essentially used as a meme for comedic purposes.

If an invention like that exists, I haven’t heard about it.

You would think using the bathroom beforehand, and basically wearing a “diaper” would be a much better option.

If you can’t hold anything in when you are squatting, then it might be best if you are not squatting in the first place.

People do have accidents or pass gas when squatting excessive amounts of weight, and this is perfectly natural.

This is a natural thing for someone trying to push that much weight as fast as possible.

If you are a professional lifter and this seems to be an ongoing problem, it might be best to force a bowel movement a couple times before it is your turn to lift.

You do have to be careful though, that you do not dehydrate yourself in the process.

Final Verdict

All in all, if you hear noises coming from someone’s behind as they are squatting, it’s best that you ignore it all together. Someone squatting a ton of weight does not need to be embarrassed for trying something so difficult.

Maybe instead of a squat plug, a squat diaper should be invented, if not already done so.
